What to See During Your Chiang Mai City Tour

Chiang Mai is often called Thailand’s spiritual capital. A trip to this part of the country opens doors to activities and experiences that are hard to find anywhere else. The staff at our luxury resort will help you arrange a Chiang Mai city tour for you. We recommend a custom made tour with your own personal guide. Enjoy a comfortable vehicle and professional driver, as well as an English-speaking tour guide.

Temple Hopping - A great Chiang Mai City tour

A Chiang Mai city tour wouldn’t be complete without visiting the most famous temples in the area. Chiang Mai is home to more than 200 ancient wats, which is why it attracts travelers who are on a journey to find their inner selves, as well as those who appreciate architecture and culture. Don’t miss Wat Chiang Man (the oldest), Wat Chedi Luang (right in the heart of the walled town), and Wat Phan Tao. Outside the city, you can visit the stunning Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, which has beautiful views of the Chiang Mai valley. Keep in mind that these temples are places of worship, so be respectful. Wear modest clothing, don’t’ take too many pictures, and keep your voice low.

Visit an Elephant Sanctuary

There’s some controversy surrounding the elephant tourism business in Chiang Mai, as some so-called ‘sanctuaries’ mistreat the animals and make them work all day like slaves. Fortunately, there are also legitimate elephant conservation areas where the animals are treated very well. Your driver and guide can take you to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary where you can feed, bathe, and just hang out with these lovable gentle giants for a few hours. Elephant Nature Park is another legitimate option.

Night Shopping Spree on your Chiang Mai city tour

Chiang Mai’s night market scene comes to life at sundown. If you happen to be here on a Sunday, even better—the entire old town turns into a large market. There’s a lot to buy, see, and eat so you never have to worry about getting bored. Whether you’re in search of a painting by a local artist or handmade Thai silk, you will find it (and more) here.

Chiang Mai Festivals

Chiang Mai and Thailand put on festivals throughout the year. Maybe you will be lucky enough to visit one during your stay. Enjoy the famous water festival of Songkran in April.  In November the Loy Kratong festival is a thing of great beauty. June, July and October are all great months for Chiang Mai festivals. Include them during your Chiang Mai city tour.
